Senior Accountant
General Accounting Unit
DUTIES:
To lead, oversee and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff
responsible for processing the District’s biweekly payroll, time sheet
administration, filing quarterly and annual federal and state tax withholding
returns, ensuring all tax withholdings, medical benefit and CalPERS payments
are timely and accurately reported and disbursed, preparation of W-2’s,
deferred compensation, handle payroll related questions, accrual leave balances
and benefits, act as lead for two support staff, directing and instructing their
assignments, working closely with H/R Benefit staff, H/R and Payroll systems
support staff, Information System Services staff and with outside auditors regarding
payroll transactions.
EXPERIENCE:
Five years of professional accounting experience including two years of lead
experience, preferably in the public sector and Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting
or a related field. Directly related experience may be substituted for the college
requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year
of education to a maximum of four years.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Recent hands-on payroll experience is desirable. Possession of, or ability to
obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license may be required
with determinations made on a case-by-case basis. Prior to appointment, candidates
will be required to successfully complete a medical examination.
SALARY:
$6,649.07 – $8,099.87 per month—Based on a five-step salary plan
Includes PERS (Public Employees’ Retirement System) Member Contribution
of 7.407%
