Program Manager, Start Up East Palo Alto

Start Up www.startupepa.org is
an East Palo Alto-based program that became part of Renaissance Entrepreneurship
Center www.rencenter.org through
a merger on January 1, 2008. Each year, Renaissance’s three locations provide
training and support in English and Spanish to over 1,400 entrepreneurial women
and men in the Bay Area, working to create lasting economic development through
small business ownership. The combined organization operates under a $2.7M budget.
The Program Manager reports to the Start Up Director. A full-time Program
Coordinator reports directly to the Program Manager.
Responsibilities
Program and Resource Development - efforts to create new advanced training
programs in English and Spanish for growing enterprises:
• Identifying obstacles that inhibit the growth of micro-enterprises
and developing resources that will assist in overcoming them.
• Managing development and adaptation of new curriculum, including workshops,
seminars, consultation and coaching for small and micro business owners • Recruiting,
training, managing, and evaluating consultants and volunteers who deliver client
services
Direct Client Service - direct assistance to clients in growing their small
and micro-enterprises:
• Working with business owners to assist them in articulating and planning
to achieve business growth goals • Ensuring that client business owners
are represented in our online directory and their business information on linked
web pages remains updated and current • Administering special grant and
equity programs for business owners
Marketing and Outreach:
• Developing descriptive and promotional
materials about program services
• Presenting program services in local community forums
Program Evaluation:
• Assisting in development of performance and outcome metrics • Managing
client outcome tracking and evaluation • Analyzing results and producing
reports and success stories to communicate results to organizational stakeholders
(e.g., internally, Board of Directors, donors)
Work schedule includes some evenings and weekends.

Experience/Skills:
Five years experience in entrepreneurial ventures and/or knowledge of issues
related to small business management.
Business ownership experience strongly preferred; college degree with business
orientation a plus.
Experience conducting outreach to culturally diverse populations, including proficiency
in developing compelling printed marketing materials in both Spanish and English.
Fluency in oral and written Spanish and English. Proficiency in Tongan and/or
Samoan is also highly desirable.
Supervisory experience and computer proficiency (office applications, Internet,
relational databases)
